It is with much sadness that I watch the news about the violence in one of my most beloved countries being Tibet (although I am sure that China opposes to that phrase). I traveled here in 1998 and I was amazed by the Tibetan hospitality, the very sensible way of protesting against the Chinese occupation and the beauty of this Buddhist society.

What struck me most in a negative way during my travel was that every city has a Tibetan area and a Chinese one from which the latter significantly has a higher level of wealth. Chinese people are encouraged by the government to move over to Tibet by getting many benefits. One of the most important benefits for many Chinese families is that the so-called “one child policy” does not apply for families living in the province of Tibet. This leads to a not balanced society between the original inhabitants of this mountainess region and the imported Chinese families.

I am against violence and I know for sure that most of the Tibetan people (and also the Chinese families living there) are but this is not a matter of the people, this is a matter of the Chinese government making a point and showing their power over this region. I can tell many stories about the discrimination of the Tibetan people in their own country but it makes me feel very sad so I decided just to honor the people by adding some more photo’s taken during my travel.

Let’s all say prayers and support Tibet by the same sensible way as the Tibetan people are doing since 1959. Do not give in and do not allow a government like the Chinese to blackmail the whole world by its economy and games!
